E85 has quickly come up in the world as a leading gasoline replacement, and as of 2014 there were over 3,000 service stations across the US carrying the fuel. Developed to help reduce tail pipe carbon emissions in vehicles and reduce overall greenhouse emissions, E85 is a blend of 85% denatured ethanol and usual 15% gasoline and commonly goes by the name Flex Fuel. Though typically E85 is cheaper than gasoline and diesel the fuel economy has yet to have any substantial research to prove otherwise, which some would say negates the dollar savings in the long run. Others tout that ethanol has already proven an advantage of up to 22% more efficient in equivalent ethanol engines. Just like adding diesel to a gasoline engine, adding E85 to a gasoline engine can cause major damage to the fuel system and other major systems. One such failure is caused by ... read more

As coined by Sammy Hagar in 1984, in protest to the national maximum speed law, “I can’t drive 55” became a marching tune to call attention and end the national speed limit of 55 mph in the 80’s. The lead single from Sammy Hagar’s 8th studio album, lyrics like “What used to take two hours, now takes all day, it took me 16 hours to get to LA.” or “One foot on the brake and one on the gas, well there’s too much traffic i can’t pass” were used to poke fun at the National Maximum Speed Law. It was enacted and enforced in response to rising crude oil prices and supply disruptions during the 1973 oil crisis. Adversely opposed by most states and most citizens, states fought to make deals and exemptions or de-emphisizing ... read more

Now, what is power steering, I hear you ask through the copper wires that make up the world wide web. At it’s most basic element, power steering is a device that aids in turning a vehicles wheels. It provides stability at high speeds, dampens road shock while driving, mainly helps turn a vehicle at low speeds with modest effort and just makes driving easier. Now a long time ago, in the early days and even up to the 80’s, most consumer v ... read more

There are few things as iconic in as an American road trip. The wide open road, the vast wilderness, the endless oceans, tallest mountains, the largest ball of string, all iconic to the American road trip. Route 66 is world renowned for it’s weird and zany attractions, it’s long empty drives and as being one of the first highways in the US. Originally stretching some 2,400 miles from Chicago southwestward through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and ending in Santa Monica California. The road served as a major path during migration from the horrific dust bowl consuming the Midwest. Which lead to the development and growth of small tourist towns all along the route. The route gained most of it’s popularity because of the geography which it went through. Mostly flat, and connecting to California, the route became very popular with commercial trucking ... read more
